Horticulturalist, landscaper, designer, what’s the difference?
Answer
This is a good question and one I’m frequently asked. I brief, a horticulturalist is a person who is trained in the art and science of plant cultivation. Typically, trained horticulturalists work in garden maintenance, management, plant production and garden retail. A landscaper is a contractor that installs gardens; a garden builder if you like. Most landscapers either began their careers as horticulturalists or builders, before gravitating towards garden construction. A qualified garden designer is a trained professional who will have an in-depth knowledge of spatial design, planning, construction, planting, hard landscaping and garden management.
Remember to check a person’s qualifications before employing their service.
